Understanding the Fault

Why Does a PS5 Beep Once on Power?

A single beep the moment you connect the mains — before pressing any button — is almost always caused by one of three faults. Our free diagnostic pinpoints the exact cause before any work starts.

01
Motherboard / Mainboard Fault
A board-level fault — damaged component or failed solder joint — prevents the console passing its power-on self-test. The single beep is an error signal and the console shuts down immediately. The most frequent cause we see for this specific symptom.
Most Common
02
Disc Eject Sensor / Capacitor Fault
A faulty capacitor (C7206) on the PS5 motherboard linked to the disc eject sensor sends a phantom eject signal the instant power is applied. The console beeps in response and then refuses to start. A well-known PS5 hardware fault requiring board-level repair.
Common
03
Power Supply Fault
A failing PSU can trigger a single beep as the console detects an internal power fault on startup. The PSU passes an initial self-test signal then shuts down immediately, leaving the console completely unresponsive.

Our Repair Process

How We Fix a PS5 Startup Beep

Transparent, step-by-step — you'll know exactly what's happening at every stage.

We power the console on the bench, monitor the startup sequence and check the disc eject sensor circuit, capacitor C7206, and PSU rails. No charge for the diagnostic — even if you decide not to proceed.

2

Fixed Quote

We give you a firm price before any work starts. No surprise charges, no "we found something else" add-ons after the fact.

3

Expert Repair

Capacitor replacement is carried out using professional microsoldering equipment. PSU replacement uses quality matched units. All board-level work is performed by experienced technicians.

4

Full Test & Sign-Off

We run the console through a full boot cycle, test disc ejection, audio, video and controller pairing before handing it back. Your 12-month warranty starts from collection.

Common Questions

PS5 Startup Beep — FAQs

Answers to the questions we're asked most about the PS5 beeping on power connection.

In most cases we see, it's a motherboard fault — a board-level component or solder joint failure that triggers an error beep during the power-on self-test before the console shuts back down. A disc eject sensor or capacitor fault (C7206) can also cause this, where a phantom eject signal fires the instant power is applied. Either way, it's a board-level repair we carry out regularly — and our free diagnostic will identify the exact cause.
Not necessarily. The single-beep-then-nothing behaviour is actually a recognisable fault pattern that usually has a fixable cause — either the eject sensor/capacitor, the PSU, or (less commonly) a board-level fault. Our free diagnostic will establish which it is before we quote anything.
They share the same root cause — a faulty eject sensor or capacitor. In early stages of the fault, the PS5 spontaneously ejects discs while running. As the fault progresses, the spurious signal can occur at power-on and prevent the console from starting at all. It's the same hardware fix.
No — the Digital Edition doesn't have a disc eject sensor, so a startup beep on the Digital model is more likely to be a PSU issue or a motherboard fault. The diagnostic process is the same and it's still a repair we handle. Bring it in and we'll identify the cause for free.
Eject sensor or capacitor repair starts from £45. PSU replacement starts from £60. Motherboard-level faults are quoted after the free diagnostic. You'll always know the price before we start — no surprises.
